Interview with Nicole Wells the Author of It’s All About Astrology: Advice You Didn’t Know You Needed
The Must Have Astrology Book of the year!
I am so excited for you to meet Nicole! She is an astrologer who has a new book out on the shelves called, It’s All About Astrology: Advice You Didn't Know You Needed. It has been such an honor to read this book and learn more about my natal placements and how to navigate their wisdom! This is an astrology book that you need in your cosmic collection! Make sure you support Nicole and purchase her lovely book in the links below after the fun interview!
Can you please introduce yourself and share your top three zodiac signs and any other favorite placements in your chart?
My name is Nicole, and I’m a Virgo Sun, Pisces Moon, Taurus rising. My favorite placements in my chart are my Cancer Venus and Mars in the fourth house. I have always been a sensitive person who loves love, so my Cancer Venus and Mars are incredibly validating placements. They also explain why I am mostly all bark, no bite—haha!
Tell us about your background as an astrologer and how this journey started for you?
I’ve been interested in astrology since I was a child. One of my favorite books growing up was It’s Happy Bunny: What’s Your Sign? I read the Virgo chapter over and over. (Actually, that book was the inspiration for the title of my book, It’s All About Astrology! I still have it on my shelf.)
As I aged, I started following astrology meme accounts on social media, which introduced me to the other signs. At the time, I was dating someone who thought astrology was silly, so as my interest grew, it was something I felt I had to keep to myself. When we broke up, I dove headfirst into studying astrology beyond the memes. As I became more confident in my knowledge, I started talking about astrology with more people, and I realized how many people are into astrology! That encouraged me to keep learning. Over the years, astrology has become so much more than a hobby. It’s changed the way I engage with the world and the people around me. It helps me find hope in moments that feel hopeless….More on that later.
Who are some of your favorite astrologers that influenced your path?
Some of the folks I look to for guidance and inspiration are Aliza Kelly, Chani Nicholas, Jake Register and Sarah Faith Gottesdiener. I’ve got a complete list of recommended astrology social media accounts in the back of my book.
What is your favorite zodiac sign and planet to work with and why?
Even though I’m a Virgo, my favorite sign is Taurus! I love how Taurus balances their desire for luxury with their desire for security—maybe because I also have champagne taste on a beer budget? Taurus being ruled by Venus makes it so luscious to work with. Unsurprisingly, Venus is my favorite planet. (I actually have the Venus symbol tattooed behind my ear!) It is so fulfilling to assess someone’s Venus placement. Western society feeds us prescriptive ideas of what love looks like, but an individual’s Venus sign reveals what they actually need in order to feel supported, valued, and loved. This may be my Cancer Venus talking, but I think the meaning of life is love, and the more a person understands their Venus placement, the more love they can embody.
What is your most challenging zodiac sign and planet to work with and why?
I have a really hard time conceptualizing Sagittarius. I always lean on the same themes, but I don’t want to sound like a broken record—each sign is so multifaceted! As for planets, I have the hardest time with Mercury. When I think about Mercury placements, they feel muddled. In my mind, Mercury placements aren’t as clear cut as, say, Moon placements. Mercury is so influenced by other planets that it can be hard to pin down specifics.
What inspired you to start writing your book, It’s All About Astrology: Advice You Didn’t Know You Needed?
I started writing this book during the pandemic to pass the time. I had been thinking about all the sections I wish astrology books had, which got my wheels turning. I wrote a brief outline, then dove in to the Aries chapter. As I wrote, I added new sections to my outline. I had so much fun that I wrote the first draft of the Aries, Taurus, and Gemini chapters in a matter of days.
How was the process like writing your book? How long did it take you to complete it and what were some of the challenges?
I had an initial burst of energy when I started writing. Then, life got busy, and I put my book on the backburner for over a year. I actually was not planning on doing anything with the three chapters I had written, but then my friend Lauryn shared that she wanted to learn more about astrology. I jokingly said, “Well, if I ever finish my book, I’ll let you read it.” Lauryn gave me the encouragement I needed to return to my book and to pitch it to Llewellyn’s acquisitions team. Once my project was contracted, I wrote the remaining nine chapters in about three months, then spent a month polishing everything. So, I wrote it really fast! I was also writing the book while working full-time and attending grad school in the evenings. Finding the time to write was a challenge, but I’d come home after work and spend an hour or two writing every day. Somehow, I made it happen. I drank a lot of caffeine!
When writing your book, what was the most challenging and least challenging zodiac sign and planet to write about and why?
I really enjoyed writing the Aries chapter because I have a ton of Aries in my life (and only one Aries placement in my own chart—funny how that works). I loved writing the Sun sign sections of my book because they were the most creative; I got to dream up gift ideas, which was a blast.
I had the hardest time writing about Gemini because I noticed a lot of bias seeping through. I had some really bad experiences dating Geminis, and I didn’t want those memories to sour the chapter. Eventually, I focused on the fact that I adore my Gemini friends, which helped me approach the chapter differently. As for planets, I had the hardest time writing about Mars because I didn’t want to offend anyone with my takes. I had to go back and soften some of those sections.
What is your favorite chapter of your book and why?
It’s not really a chapter, but I loved writing my acknowledgments. They were so personal for me, and I spent a lot of time fine-tuning exactly what I wanted to say. I have lots of supportive people in my life, and taking time to thank them individually was really heart-warming.
Trying to get the writer to write is an art in itself, can you share with us your writing routine and what helped you stay disciplined to complete your book?
Honestly, I created a schedule of which sections I needed to write per day to meet my own deadline, and I stuck to it. (Very Virgo of me.) I never let myself get more than two days behind schedule, because then I’d have to spend so many hours catching up. I loathe missing deadlines, which is what kept me disciplined.
What do you feel is the most misunderstood astrological energy, and how can It’s All About Astrology help shed some light on this uncertainty?
For zodiac signs, I’d say Gemini is the most misunderstood, which is ironic considering what I shared earlier. There’s a lot of “ganging up” on Gemini, but once you understand why Geminis are the way that they are, their differences are actually so endearing. I spent a lot of time shaping my Gemini chapter to reflect the sign’s strengths: They’re silly, open, and adaptable. I hope my chapter encourages people to give Geminis some grace.
What do you hope your readers will gain when working with It’s All About Astrology?
Ultimately, I hope my book helps readers realize how helpful astrology can be in day-to-day life. For a long time, I thought astrology was just about personality. Sure, that’s a big part of it, but it also indicates what we need in life to feel fulfilled as well as things that aren’t going to work for us. I included real-world applications in my book because I want readers to feel empowered to draw on their knowledge of their chart.
How can your readers incorporate It’s All About Astrology into their own personal astrology practice?
I’ve got all kinds of tips and tricks in the book, from things they can embody in daily life (like socializing with coworkers or their boss) to big-picture relational things, like how to use your partner’s chart to be a more supportive partner. We are relational beings, and astrology is relational too. That’s a theme sprinkled throughout the book.
When you completed It’s All About Astrology, how did you feel afterward, and did you do anything to celebrate?
I felt incredible when I finished the book! In that moment, it felt like the greatest achievement of my life. To celebrate, I spent an entire evening doing absolutely nothing, which was much needed after spending every night writing.
Where can we find and purchase It’s All About Astrology?
You can find It’s All About Astrology: Advice You Didn’t Know You Needed anywhere books are sold! It’s available on Llewellyn’s website, via online retailers, in some bookstores, and at some metaphysical shops. If you’re interested in purchasing a copy, I recommend ordering through an independent bookstore. Bookshop.com is a great way to give back to an indie bookstore anywhere in America if there aren’t any nearby. Some libraries let you request books to add to circulation; that’s another great way to get your hands on the book while giving back to your community.
Are there any future book events for It’s All About Astrology that you would like to share, so we can keep an eye out?
Yes! I’ll be at Minneapolis’s Paganicon during the weekend of March 21–23, 2025. I am planning on having some sort of signing. Details TBD, though I’ll make sure to share on Instagram. I’m also hoping to do some local events around the Twin Cities, but nothing is set in stone yet.
Any advice you can give those who are interested in writing their own book?
Write because you want to, not because you’re thinking about royalties. If you are passionate about your subject matter, the process will be enjoyable from start to finish, whether or not your book sells well.
I want to pick your brain about current astrology for we know that 2025 is the year of the century. What are your thoughts on the astrology of 2025 and some personal predictions you have for the years to come?
The astrology of 2025 is anxiety-inducing in the best and worst way. Something huge is on the horizon. I imagine Neptune entering Aries at the end of March is going to indicate what the rest of 2025 has in store. This year could get messy. Overall, though, I do believe good will prevail—it just might take a while.
I’m excited about Pluto being in Aquarius, because I think it will urge us to prioritize humanitarianism. I hope it transforms what humans value and how we care for each other. In my dream world, Pluto in Aquarius means America evolves beyond capitalism to ensure that everyone has access to basic human needs such as housing, food, clean water, bodily autonomy, and universal healthcare. Globally, Pluto in Aquarius could lead to a commitment to peace instead of war, a plan to mitigate the climate crisis, and so much more. Sure, these hopes and dreams may sound far-fetched now, but the North Node moving into Pisces gives me hope that humanity as a collective is going to be embracing empathy, curiosity, and development. Things don’t have to stay the way they were; we can build a better world.
What are you excited about most when it comes to the astrology of this year and the future?
I’m really excited to experience Jupiter in Cancer this summer, which will (hopefully) bring a wave of good news to counteract all the bad things happening in the world. Maybe it will even be the start of our shift toward humanitarianism! I also think Saturn in Aries could shake things up in the best possible way, though it’s not necessarily something I’m excited about because I have Saturn in Aries, which means it’s Saturn Return season for me.…
Anything currently inspiring you like music, art, film, books etc. that you want to talk about?
I consume a lot of media, so I’m always happy to talk about what I’m watching, reading, and listening to! Currently watching Love Is Blind, because the newest season was filmed in the Twin Cities; currently reading Filthy Animals by Brandon Taylor, because I am obsessed with short story collections; and currently listening to Spotify’s “Emo Forever” playlist, because it helps me metabolize my angst.
Are you working on anything exciting now that you would like to share?
I’ve been working on articles lately. I just submitted a blog post to Llewellyn that assesses what someone needs in a relationship based on their Moon, Venus, and Mars signs. The article was inspired by fill-in-the-blank books, which I loved as a child, so it was super fun to write. I’ve also got an article in Llewellyn’s 2026 Magical Almanac that teaches you how to use candle magick for love, whether you’re looking for love or wanting to boost existing love in your life. That will be out later this year.
