Interview with Allison Kaylor of Moon Nectar Apothecary
The coolest color divination apothecary for the Aquarian Age!
I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to interview Allison Kaylor, the visionary behind her business Moon Nectar Apothecary and her new Substack The Holographic Energy Report. Ever since I have laid eyes on Allison’s work, I have been impressed and amazed by her talent. We also have a lot in common, by both being Libra Risings, having strong Capricorn placements in our charts (her Sun, to my Moon) and also working as fashion designers before we became healers full-time!
Allison is one of the coolest people I have connected with in this metaphysical space and her color divination tools have elevated my path as a healer tremendously. Please enjoy this interview below and do not forget to support Allison’s business Moon Nectar Apothecary and subscribe to her Substack! With Gratitude, Majorie.
Can you please introduce yourself, share your zodiac sign, and a bit of your background as a healer?
My name is Allison Kaylor. I am a Capricorn sun, Libra rising, and Pisces moon. I have had a connection to divination since I was a child. I have always studied tarot and crystals and doing readings for my friends and family probably since I was maybe 13 or 14 years old. I started Moon Nectar Apothecary to help enhance my own intuition and make products to use during divination work or ritual work. I also wanted to create a clean beauty line without chemicals and fragrances.
Becoming a healer has been a long journey. I think it is a huge responsibility and you have to heal big parts of yourself in order to be able to hold space and be a container for someone else. The healing of myself is constant, and I think it is for all of us. I’ve realized that you cannot gain wisdom without going through the hard things and it’s all in how you navigate it. As a healer I do not want to be the symbol or person someone looks to, but being a vessel or conduit to help people open up parts of themselves so they can feel empowered to be their own healer. All healing is within each of us.
What was the inspiration behind the name Moon Nectar Apothecary?
Well, I was fascinated at the time that not only does the Sun help to grow plants, but the Moon also. In biodynamic farming you plant certain types of elemental crops at different moon phases. I also wanted to develop a line that was all natural and embodied the nectar from plant oils (scent). What has by far been the most interesting part of the journey, was when I started learning and tuning into color healing and the chakras. I then learned of the Soma Chakra when researching the link between the Soma and autistic and neurodivergent people.
My son has autism and I wanted to start doing light and color therapy to help open his throat chakra. At the time he was non-verbal and had never even said mama! I came across the Soma and learned that this placement, above the third eye was linked to the crescent moon on its back and the sacred nectar (Amrita) of immortality! It blew my mind, that it was moon/ nectar!
This is the chakra most connected to timelines, multiverses, telepathy, and where the spiritual and physical body connect. Often with my son it is as if he is in two places at once, like he is stuck between time or straddling timelines, so this link was fascinating to me. I learned recently this is a known thing, in Maori they have a word for autism which means, “in their own space and time.” So that said, in doing this work it came full circle as to why I am here to help heal and connect the energetic webs, kind of like a confirmation I was on the right path. I began my business the year before my son was born, so in a way I think it was prophetically created for him and for me to step into that role.
What was your motivation to begin developing your own oils, potions, and perfume?
I wanted products that were non-toxic, and did not have bad ingredients, chemicals or toxic bi-products. I also truly just wanted to make things that i would want to use, and would help people. I was deep in my own ritual and manifestation work and making things that I could use, but also would help others develop their own intuition was important. I think we all are capable of much more than we realize. Also, scent to me is so POWERFUL. It can trigger memories, and persuade our behaviors or sexual behaviors and there is something to deeply powerful about it transporting us into a different time and space or feeling.
I am loving your Gem Essence Oils! What inspired you to launch this collection and do you have a favorite essence?
These I developed really early on and I was doing a lot of candle magic rituals in which you dress your candle with different oils that attract what you want to attract. I did a lot of research on crystal properties and doing an infusion safely. Some crystals are not suitable for a direct method of creating an essence, so nowadays I mostly use orgones, which have copper coil on top and copper is a conductor of energy. My favorite is honestly Hematite. I use it the most and it is definitely not the most popular one, but for some reason it is my favorite. I also love Hematite as a crystal for it is my favorite before readings and for grounding.
For someone who is new to oils and wants to support your apothecary, where would you recommend they start?
Try the Love Thy Self oil, they are safe on the body, or maybe the Citrine in an oil diffuser. Test it out or try dressing a candle with one. Amethyst is also another you could work with if you like meditation or want to start meditating. It’s great for helping facilitate going deep and relaxing in.
I admire your artistic vision for your products, photography, and design concepts. Do you have any formal art/graphic design training or are you self-taught?
Yes, I went to Otis College of Art and Design and have a bachelors of Fine Arts in Fashion Design. I learned Adobe there, and it definitely helped me harness my creativity and being able to convey it. Thank you by the way that is so kind! I do it all myself, except the videos my friend helps with.
Can you share the inspiration behind the Color Vision Oracle Deck and why you felt called to create this deck?
Color is the way I see and intuit the world, so I wanted to create something that I was able to read with that was in my language so to speak. When I first started my business all my products had correspondences like crystals, elements, and this was before I knew what Correspondence was, but there was something about putting the symbolism of different things be it astrology, elements, nature symbols, and the body in connection that just made it make sense to me.
It took me around four years to complete and I started just before Covid, so I had some time on my hands! It took a while to really configure it out so that it made sense and I wanted something that was user friendly and had a lot of information, not just a flimsy booklet like most oracle decks. I also feel that color is one of the most powerful tools we have and is all around us and under utilized. Color and Sound are intertwined and everything around us is in constant vibration. Color for example is light, and light is a wave and a particle— the frequency of the wave depicts the color you are seeing so it is all perceived through energy.
What was the artistic process like for Color Vision Oracle and what artistic tools or mediums did you use?
Just photoshop honestly from my brain… it evolved a few times, but I like where it came out.
Were there any challenges or road bumps when creating this deck or was the process very effortless and smooth?
Oh yes, getting the layout and the right cards, editing everything, and then working with production overseas to make sure everything was correct, took so long! You often get into ruts too and you have to step back and then you can push through. The book too was a huge feat to finish and even when it was done there are things the second round that I have fixed or adjusted. But I’m a firm believer in just “doing”, you can worry forever about it being perfect, but then you won’t produce anything.
What is your favorite card in Color Vision Oracle?
Art wise, strangely it's the Trauma card haha! I also love Alliance and Conduit. I think Conduit is my favorite.
The Color Vision Oracle deck guidebook is honestly one of the Best guidebooks and color aura books I have ever received. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but do you have any plans to turn this into a larger book or even a series?
Oh, man no idea! I would love to one day possibly expand or add a supplement with more colors/cards and in that case expand the book!
Who are some of your spiritual and creative influences that have shaped you as an artist and Reiki healer?
I used to frequent this crystal shop in Atwater Village, in Los Angeles in my twenties and one of the employees who was a witch himself, really inspired me to develop my gift. He was quite a mentor to me at the time, allowing me to recognize it and settle into the idea of making it an occupation (at the time I was a clothing designer). I also took my first Reiki course there, where I met my first guide who is now a big part of my practice and whom I channel. During this initial meditation he gave me a pipe, which at the time I didn’t know, but the teacher said signified services and health.
There are too many artists to name, one is my best friend Ria-Leigh who is one of the most brilliant artists I know, her work is under Saint Profanus and Calyx Armatura. I also love Penny Slinger, and her deck, The Tantric Dakini Oracle. I think I am also very inspired by Op Art in a lot of my work and my late friend, Noah Davis who the world lost too young, his work is incredible. I also love James Turell and am a fan of the Happening Movement in the 50s/60s, because I think life is a work of art!
How are the chakras connected to your work as a Reiki healer and your apothecary? Is there a chakra that you feel called to work with the most?
Well, I think when you are in touch with energy, especially though your hands, you are able to feel into the field, and or intuit static and this can be really helpful in knowing where there are leaks, blocks, or imbalances of energy. Reiki is such a powerful tool for people who are super energy sensitive and it has been part of a long process of protecting my energy and learning to ground, so I would say I think one of the most important chakras is the Root Chakra.
Especially, in this day and age of information stimuli, it is easy to go up in the head and be detached from the body. One of the most crucial practices especially when doing readings or energy work is to ground, so you don’t take on others energy in the process and feel depleted. When I first started doing sessions and readings with people I would feel so drained until I had a good grounding and boundary practice and also for me personally this has been a long journey working with the Root. Especially, in order to channel, you can’t channel unless you ground.
Tell us about your Reiki journey? What inspired you to take this path?
I was feeling really clumsy, ungrounded, way too drained in certain situations or going out in the world, and it really helped me develop a way to cultivate and harness my own frequency. It can also help before walking into different situations in life. You can Reiki your food, your car, send Reiki to a place you are going beforehand or just draw the symbols in the four corners of a room to protect and soothe the energy. You can also picture colors coming through your hands as you practice Reiki on someone, so the more you can learn about the chakras and color you can utilize the right color for that particular person.
Can you share your experience being a Reiki practitioner and having a Reiki business?
To be honest, I find Reiki on others to be a big responsibility and you really need a big container to hold space for others and heal a lot of your own stuff before you can partake in helping others. I actually do not do Reiki on most of the clients I have in person unless I feel like they would need it, but I do use my energy sensors (hands) to help feel into crystal placements and where to use my light therapy to clear their field. I utilize light therapy more these days. I have a Lumalite system that has different colored filters and a Vogel crystal chakra light above my sound bed. It takes a lot to do energy work and even I am still building up my stamina, so it has been a practice that I use mostly for myself or my son. When he is sick I will do it on his belly, he gets stomach issues a lot or throws up and it always helps him. It’s also amazing for me when I get menstrual cramps.
What kind of Reiki experience can someone expect to receive when having a Reiki session with you?
I do not always use it with clients only with some, and I think even I am building up to expanding my container if i’m being totally honest. I think that it is an excellent practice for anyone who is highly empathic or energy sensitive to learn and use just for themselves to understand how to protect their energy and use it as an intuitive sensor. I know that might seem crazy, because I have had my attunement for a good ten years, but its a big responsibility and I utilize it most to intuit the field of someone and clear using light therapy and sound (tuning forks). I also see color around people. Sometimes I do readings for or energies by their head or in back of them which is all information.
Where do you see the future of Reiki headed?
Hopefully, acknowledging that all women are healers. One of my favorite books is called, All Women Are Healers by Diane Stein and I think we have long lost the time of matriarchal societies and communities. I hope to bring that back as natural healing and acknowledgment of the bodies innate biological systems coming back into the forefront, rather than synthetic drugs, which are a topical bandaid in most cases. I hope that in the future there are co-ops where women can come together and volunteer their time to give back to other women, and be of support with hands on healing when needed. Homeopathy as well has been life changing in my family and was the first early medicine of our time. I hope that we remember the ancient skills and practices that work with our biology, not against it and I hope more women learn Reiki or practice building energy between their hands and using it for good.
Crystals are a major influence in your Reiki work and business. Tell us about your crystal collection and your favorite crystals to work with?
Omg, so many I do not even know haha! Malachite has always been one of my favorites, it is so powerful and protective, as is black tourmaline. Blue Lace Agate is great for helping open the throat chakra. Moss Agate is great for abundance. Spessartine Garnet will attract love like you never expected. Sulphur is a weird obsession of mine, and is great for helping clear a work space (very cleansing). Shattukite is great for channeling. Labradorite and Lapis are also so magical and help you go deeper into visionary spaces. I could go on and on.
When did divination and dowsing come into your life and how do you incorporate these tools in your spiritual practice?
Divination has always been a part of my practice with just pulling a card in the morning. The pendulum work was taught to me by the man I mentioned initially who was a mentor. It is amazing how accurate it can be! Now that I have the deck, I use that more than the dowsing wheel, but I love them both and so many people really gravitate towards dowsing. You can also use a pendulum over the chakras which will tell you which is blocked, open or how they are flowing. They are like disks that spin clockwise if moving and flowing properly.
How do you manage your time as a healer, artist, creator, and business owner? What are some of the challenges and benefits?
Good question, some days I do not know! I am also a single mom, so I am in constant juggling mode. When you're a small business owner you never shut off you are on all the time, answering emails, and finishing projects etc. I think the biggest benefit is doing what you love, I hated working in fashion and I feel so fulfilled working for myself and doing what I love and having flexibility. I wouldn’t have it any other way, plus I am a Capricorn, so sadly work is so important to me haha!
I love watching your weekly card readings on Instagram and your insightful take not only on the cards, but the astrology and times ahead. What are some of your visions, concerns, and predications for the future?
Well, I think we can get bogged down all day in fear about what we are constantly being told, for example about wars, the energy grid, food supply, natural disasters, etc. I think what I envision and see is that more people are waking up to the nature of reality and how we can though our thoughts and energy, shift collective consciousness and create greater positive probability waves and outcomes. I think moving into the Aquarian age and Pluto in Aquarius will also really help usher in a more community mindset and recognizing that we have to help each other, because no one is going to save us but us. I think that learning and enhancing your intuition has never been more important than right now in the age of AI. Technology, which in my mind, will never actually surpass humanity. It’s important that we stay alert and awake, so that we aren’t bombarded when it intensifies.
I also think that we are gong to see major breakthroughs in healing and learning more about the biofield, sound, frequency, and light therapy as modalities for healing the body. There is so much more! I think we just have to stay optimistic about human potential and be ready for aliens when they show up too! So to sum it up, I think people recognizing the power within them and the power of community in a big way. I think Quantum physics will have some big breakthroughs and free energy is also on its way. Electricity is everywhere even in us!
Any opinions or thoughts on astrology you want to share? It can be about the current transits or anything you are keeping an eye on in the near future?
You know for me, I am just excited about Pluto leaving my sign! I think the last few weeks here are going to be wild when she crumbles the last bits of government corruption and corporate culture and all the things since the financial crisis, Iraq war, and housing crisis that have really made people open their eyes and see the truth of things. Moving into Aquarius I think will be a whole new reality of people taking back power!
It is no surprise that we are navigating some of the most stressful and debilitating times ever. How do you stay grounded amongst the chaos?
MEDITATION. It’s a must! Sunshine as well. Listening to your inner voice and tuning out the noise. Also, sound healing and frequency music as well as just making sure to GROUND!
Anything currently inspiring you like music, film, art, etc. that you are excited about?
Coyote and I listen to a lot of surf rock (messer chups) right now, because it’s good spooky Halloween music. His favorite is called, Ghost Part and Dracula Hates Killer Icicles. I’m a big fan of 60s garage. I love The Seeds, 13th Floor Elevators, I also love Howling Wolf and I’m a big Cramps fan. Film wise, I love a good documentary—The Ring of Love is a favorite, also the Marion Stokes Project. Jane Fonda in 5 Acts was really inspiring to me with the many changes we go through in our lives. She was a different person so many times and when things feel hard, I remind myself that everything is a phase and it changes. I also love True Detective and that last season was so good! Another good biography is Just Kids by Patti Smith.
Any accounts, healers, small business, mystics, witches, etc that you would like to give a shout out to?
YOU of course, probably Calyx Armatura my friend who I am partnering with and who helps with my videos and is starting a parfum line. Open Eye Crystals in LA is amazing. I love Michael Cardenas, Oldeways on Instagram, Madre Linen (my friend Shay), and Shop DANO here in Portland is my good friend. Botanical Lilith is awesome on Instagram, her products are amazing, and Sideshow Gallery is also my favorite, the owners are incredible old school punk rock witches.
