Welcome to a new segment called, Saturn Return Records. For this new music series I will be exploring pivotal albums that were created and released during an artists Saturn Return. For those unfamiliar with the Saturn Return period in astrology, this is a transformative time in one’s life when the planet Saturn goes back to your natal sign and house of birth. We have a Saturn Return every 29 years and it lasts for three years. This is a period where we go through immense change, encounter a series of challenges and limitations, as well as experience profound breakthroughs. Saturn is the teacher and his mission is to help set one up for optimal success in their future, but one must be willing to pass the tests before one can reap the rewards.
The Saturn Return record I discuss to kick off this new series is, Ivy’s Long Distance. This album is a recent favorite of mine from the American indie-pop rock band Ivy. Long Distance is Ivy’s third album, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary last year. In my video I talk extensively about the challenges Saturn put this band through, and how the end result of the transit resulted in a a beautiful masterpiece of work that has now become a cult classic in the indie rock music scene. Long Distance is the quintessential early 00s album with its lush atmosphere optimistic feel that transports you back to a simpler time.
